Elite XC “Street Certified” Results
In Elite XC’s “Street Certified” that aired on February 16 from Miami, fans were given two full hours of action-packed fights that kept the crowd on their feet. In all, there were 11 fights, six of which were on the undercard and not aired on Showtime.
- The televised event featured five fights and started with a match-up between James Thompson and Brett Rogers (the seventh fight of the night). Halfway through Round One, Rogers was able to defeat Thompson by KO due to punches.
- Next up was Yves Edwards and James Edson Berto, battling for a win in the 155lb division. After nearly five minutes of fighting, Edwards - who had been in a deeply sunk choke earlier in the round - was able to win via flying knee. With all of his weight on one leg, Edwards held onto Berto and lifted his planted knee into Berto’s face, ending the fight with a KO win.
- The third televised fight was a battle between Scott Smith and Kyle Noke. After a first round that was riddled with even exchanges, Smith was able to snake out a win over the Aussie by knockout in just seven seconds (0:07) of Round Two.
- The only televised fight to go to decision, the match-up between Ricco Rodriguez and Antonio Silva was pretty even. There fight received a lot of boos and negative chants from the crowd. There was no clear winner, and Silva won by split decision.
- The highly anticipated fight of the night featured UFC vet Tank Abbott and internet fighting sensation Kimbo Slice. This had been talked about being a war between bears and lions, but it ended up being a fight between two gentlemen. While many expected dominations and ground and poundings, Kimbo knocked down Tank several times but allowed him to get up instead of capitalizing on the opportunities. At just 0:43 seconds into Round One, Kimbo won via KO.
Elite XC is a new force in MMA competition and has some high profile fights scheduled in the near future, including Frank Shamrock against Cung Le and Ken Shamrock against Robert Berry.
